Discussion #2 Plagiarism Among College Students

Reviewing the "Internet Plagiarism Among College Students" I agree with and personally believe that Russell Hunt made the best argument towards the issue of plagiarism. Sadler gave reasons as to why plagiarism is wrong, and how it has negative effects to the academic communtiy, students, teachers and such. Hunt provides an sound argument about why we should be happy about Plagiarism and not look at it as a negative situation. He gave many reasons why, and also backed it up, and provided ample evidence as to how he has come to that certain conclusion and why he felt that way. Whereas Sadler just gave us, the normal story of plagiarism and it being negative, he just listed all things that were wrong, nothing convinced me to see the problem in his viewpoint.

  1. Plagiarism has always been an issue especially among college students. It is important that we recognize what plagiarism is and its negative effects. I see both Hunt's and Sadler's points of view, however I agree with you regarding Hunt's perspective about plagiarism. I liked how he provided us with sound reasoning and backed it up with evidence. It made his conclusion more credible. Although Sadler gave us good reasons, it did not make her reasoning stand out from the rest of the arguments I have heard regarding this issue. Plagiarism is a concern that we have all heard numerous times, it is important to present it in a different way that might help readers understand its extent and importance.

  2. I agree with your ideas surrounding plagiarism. Many college students do this so it brings up problems. But sometimes i feel that it is unfair when people plagiarize because they may get a better grade compared to someone that did all their work. I sometimes don't like the method of turning in paper on websites that check for plagiarism because i may be writing a paper that i completely did on my own but then the paper comes back as 12% plagiarized so i always end up questioning myself what did i copy.It is a big issue in students today but many do it because of pressures for a good grade.
