Discussion #3 Internet Age
I am definitely living in an internet age. Just five minutes ago i spent about three hours being completely bored with myself to the point where i created my own Twitter and Instagram account. The reason i did so was purely for the fact that i was bored and was hoping that these internet social networks would amuse me in moments like these. I sit in class and scroll through all my social networks. The internet has become addictive, and a major part of my day to day life. But for some its worse. Some spend all their time posting pictures of themselves every minute and updating status every second its crazy. Theres nothing people wont put on the internet anymore. We have all become accustomed to making the internet our diary. The way this genreation has been using the internet has become very unhealthy. We spend so much time focusing on the internet world we forget to live in the actual world, thats right in front of us. Social networking sites have also become instrumental in how the media tries to connect and communicate with us. Everything we learn, we primarily get it from facebook, twitter etc. first hand. It almost makes me wonder what will take over our lives next when the internet becomes out of style.

I agree with you that we are living in the Internet Age. Since our cell phones have been upgraded to smartphones with Internet access, we are connected to the web 24/7. It only takes less than a minute to type in a question on Google and gets an answer. Information is much more easily accessible today than it was a couple years ago. Social networking sites also contribute to our need to be online. We like to stay connected and up to date with our friends. The Internet has changed a lot, and it’s to a point where we need it everyday.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your reference to social networks becoming like an internet diary for a lot of people. It does seem like people put an awful lot of personal information and revealing pictures on their social pages. I also agree with your point that many people rely on social networking sites as their form of communication with others. I think it's kind of sad that oral communication seems to be dying out. I get irritated when people post things on Facebook or other social sites and expect people in their lives to get updates on their lives through that source. Don't people talk to each other anymore? And if this is how things are now, what will the future bring?
ReplyDeleteI, too, am living the internet age. It is actually the first thing I do when I get home and the last thing I look at before I go to sleep. Just like you I use it when I'm bored except I use it when I'm not bored as well. Through my phone I also browse through my social networks like facebook and instagram. I completely agree with you that all of what internet has to bring is very addicting. We are truly not the only ones with this phase.
